Automatic Image Segmentation with AUTOTOM3D

As part of our AUTOTOM3D project—funded and supported by Madrid StartUps, the Regional Ministry of Education, Science, and Universities, the European Union, and European Funds in Spain—Digital Anatomics is developing an advanced automatic image segmentation system that promises to transform the future of personalized surgery.

Automatic image segmentation is a cutting-edge technology that instantly converts medical images, such as MRIs or CT scans, into highly accurate 3D models. The AUTOTOM3D system focuses specifically on the bony structures of the lower extremities: tibia, fibula, femur, patella and foot.

This advancement directly impacts surgical planning by providing clear, detailed visualizations of a patient’s anatomy. Accurately identifying bone structures enables the creation of customized surgical guides, optimizing surgical workflows and improving patient outcomes.

With automatic segmentation, surgeons gain access to more precise tools, allowing them to minimize risks, reduce time in the operating room, and, in many cases, shorten recovery periods for patients.

Innovations Under Development

  • Optimal Positioning Indicators: Integrating a system that assists surgeons in placing surgical guides with maximum precision, enhancing intervention success rates.

  • Surgical Previsualization: Incorporating simulations to adjust details prior to surgery, ensuring even more refined planning.

  • Faster, More Efficient Processes: Streamlining every stage to deliver surgical guides in record time without compromising quality or accuracy.

AUTOTOM3D represents a leap forward in surgical planning and precision, reaffirming Digital Anatomics’ commitment to innovation and improved patient care.
